Position: EDUCATION SERVICES SPECIALIST with Security Clearance
Duties SUMMARY The primary purpose of this position is to plan, direct, organize, and exercise control over non-supervisory employees assigned to the Education and Training Section, Education Services Element. DUTIES
* Provides individual career, academic, and force development advisement to military personnel of all ranks, their dependents, and/or civilian personnel pursuing undergraduate/graduate, vocational, technical, licensure/certification, and professional development opportunities at various levels.
* Assesses program effectiveness. Consistently assesses overall program effectiveness by sampling student, instructor, and commanders' needs, validating suggestions and complaints, examining drop-out rates and enrollment trends.
* Plans and administers a variety of education programs that range from basic education programs to Master's degree programs in order to meet the needs of the active duty personnel and DoD civilians.
* Serves as the installation technical expert for the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF). Maintains contact with CCAF personnel, including the Dean of the College, to resolve difficult issues.
* Performs a variety of outreach to promote educational programs. Prepares and conducts briefings for groups or units to promote educational programs.
* Performs a variety of administrative and customer service duties related to the educational counseling program. Maintains program information and prepares a variety of reports or feeder information as required. Requirements Conditions of employment

* Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
* Knowledge of both military and civilian occupations and occupational trends and the physical, mental, education, and experience requirements of various
* occupations with a knowledge of educational institutions and programs to make appropriate recommendations to clients
* Knowledge of various educational testing methodologies. Ability to select, administer, and interpret diagnostic tests such as interest, aptitude, and achievement tests used in educational and career planning
* Knowledge of counseling and interviewing theories and techniques and ability to use those theories and techniques to gather educational and personal information in order to counsel individuals regarding educational and vocational needs/opportunities
* Must meet the positive education requirements as stipulated by US OPM for the 1740 occupation series.
* Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY):
Approximately 10 days per year Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-1740 Education Services Specialist Series. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Degree: that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours appropriate to the position to be filled in one or a combination of the areas described below. At least one course must have been from (1) or (2) below.

* Tests and measurement:
Study of the selection, evaluation, administration, scoring, interpretation, and uses of group and individual aptitude, proficiency, interest, and other tests.
* Adult education:
Study of the adult as a learner, teaching-learning theories for adults, models and procedures for planning, designing, managing, and evaluating adult learning activities.
* Educational program administration:
Study of the foundation and methods in organizing for adult and continuing education programs.
* Curriculum development or design:
Study of the principles and techniques for development of curricula for adult or vocational education programs.
* Teaching methods:
Study of teaching strategies and learning styles of the adult learner.
* Guidance and counseling:
Study of the purposes and methods in counseling and guidance, the role of the counselor in various settings, approaches to counseling, and the uses of tests in the counseling situation.
* Career planning:
Study of career development, learning activities, systems, approaches, program coordination, use of educational and community resources, and vocational counseling systems.
