** This role ensures that the client's design ideas are optimized using standard materials wherever possible, supplemented with special components as necessary.
The design engineer prepares conceptual proposals and performs calculations to ensure that the construction is strong and stable during both assembly and operation. Additionally, they provide essential feedback to draftsmen and team leaders.
The Director of Engineering for Stageco US collaborates closely with designers, project managers, and Stageco staff to execute projects effectively.
** Concept Planning − Develop preliminary proposals based on information (load, etc.) received from the project manager. − Assist the project manager in explaining these concepts and calculations to clients. − Verify technical feasibility (crane positions, crane types, component sizes, etc.) − Research applicable standards and performance requirements. − Plan the study phase to ensure we are designing a safe, strong structure.
− Join client calls, if needed, to ensure that information collected by project managers is accurate.
Design − Perform thorough calculations for the strength and stability of the structure, taking into account the boundary conditions and applied loads. − Provide data to draftsmen and review drawings. − Coordinate with vendors of the client or other suppliers (lighting, sound, video, scenery, etc.) − Ensure the stability of components during assembly. − Adhere to relevant standards and regulations. − Ensure that draftsmen receive accurate data.
Preparation of construction build books and calculation notes − Prepare a manual for the assembly team and the project manager. − Compile construction plans and calculations in the build book for submission for approval and necessary engineering stamps. − Collaborate with an outside engineering firm to verify that all calculations are correct and approved.
Construction and technical support during the assembly − Ensure crew chiefs, build teams, and project managers have all the necessary information for the build. − Explain calculations to local inspectors and stadium officials as needed.
Ongoing responsibilities throughout the assembly − Calculate local adjustments, modified rigging, and as-built drawings as necessary. − Add new components and modified configurations as required. − Resubmit for approval when needed. − Address technical questions from the crew chief, build teams, and project managers.
Project Close-Out − If present during assembly and/or disassembly, take detailed notes for precise evaluation. If absent, gather essential data from leaders, assemblers, and the project manager. − Analyze collected data and propose improvements or adjustments to report to relevant Stageco personnel.
General Office Responsibilities − Actively participate in company-assigned improvement initiatives. − Contribute to a positive and productive working environment. − Provide backup to colleagues in other areas of the company. − Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.
Knowledge / Abilities / Skills − Ability to create and calculate designs. − Proficiency in calculation software. − Strong understanding of construction-related documents. − Ability to read and interpret plans in drawing software (e.g., AutoCAD). − Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite − Knowledge of standards and regulations for building in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. − Familiarity with standard materials.
− Problem-solving skills with the ability to achieve technically feasible solutions for client needs. − Technical insights, including reading plans, understanding strength calculations, and translating them to local conditions. − Ability to supervise draftsmen and the R&D department as defined with the CEO. − Capability to provide necessary explanations and support to team leaders when they have questions or concerns.
− Lead Stageco US R&D and draftsmen team to ensure we keep Stageco values and standards in all projects.
Education − Master's degree or equivalent work experience in industrial or civil engineering, with a focus on strength and materials science. − A minimum of six years of construction experience in a similar role.
