Description

As a Senior Propulsion Component Engineer (Electromechanical) at Impulse Space
, you will own all aspects of component design from concept to product realization, while working closely with a fast‑paced, agile team that strives to make a high‑performance spacecraft from a clean sheet design.

Responsibilities
  • Design propulsion system electromechanical components including linear and rotary actuators and motors
  • Perform integrated system trades on power systems, actuation rates, and force margins to arrive at optimal solution for flight vehicle
  • Own all aspects of component design from initial concepts to product realization
  • Generate detailed CAD models and manufacturing drawings
  • Perform fluid, thermal, and structural analysis as required
  • Establish assembly procedures and work hands‑on with technicians to refine this process
  • Define and support rigorous component development and qualification testing
  • Resolve technical issues with innovative and resourceful solutions
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in high power density motor and/or actuator design
  • A strong understanding of electromechanical component design including force/torque margin determination, materials and motor selection, wear, electronics, motor control and software/firmware interfaces
  • Hands‑on experience working with fluid, electrical and mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CAD software with ability to learn new tools
  • Demonstrated ability in requirements definition, conceptual design, procurement, fabrication, assembly and testing of hardware
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience designing and operating high reliability, high performance hardware
  • Experience with high‑power density and vacuum‑rated components
  • Experience in a startup or agile development environment
  • Strong project management skills and effective communication of technical concepts across multi‑disciplinary team
Additional Requirements
  • Flexible schedule and willing to travel as needed

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on job‑related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full‑time hires, you may also be eligible for long‑term incentives, in the form of stock options

Impulse Space’s spacecraft manufacturing business is subject to U.S. export regulations including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
