Lowtemp Industries is a Colorado-based manufacturer of premium solventless extraction and processing equipment for the cannabis and hemp industry. We design, build, and support rugged, precision-engineered systems used by craft producers and global MSOs alike. 2025 was a growth year for us with a small team: new product lines, expanding automation, and no shortage of new ideas. Role

Summary

You will be the hands-on Embedded Hardware Engineer for all new product development and existing product sustainment programs, from initial whiteboard sketches through pilot runs and ongoing support. Expect a mix of PCB design, embedded controls, and cross-disciplinary problem solving. You'll also assist with component sourcing strategies (domestic & international) and will collaborate daily with a small, motivated team of mechanical designers, firmware developers, operations staff, and global manufacturers.

Key Responsibilities
  • 50% Electrical Engineering & PCB Design Architect, simulate, lay out, and validate mixed-signal PCBs (MCUs, power electronics, sensors, comms). Create complete documentation (schematics, BOMs, gerbers, pick and place, drill files, assembly procedures, etc.).
  • 30% Project & Cross-Team Collaboration Drive electrical work-streams within NPD projects, maintain schedules, interface with mechanical and firmware teams, and report progress to leadership.
  • 10% Continuous Improvement Solve problems in-situ and in production. Establish best practices for DFM/DFT, develop test fixtures, coordinate with co-manufacturing partners, and mentor technicians.
  • 10% Automation & Controls Design PLC/HMI or micro-controller-based control schemes. Assist with PLC/HMI troubleshooting.
Must-Have Qualifications
  • BSEE or similar and 2–4 years experience designing production PCBs
  • Proven track record of bringing at least two mechatronic products from concept to production.
  • Expertise in embedded controls (embedded C/C++ and Python) and sensor integration (temp, pressure, load cells, encoders).
  • Experience using Altium for PCB Design, Wiring Harness Design, and Component Creation.
  • Strong troubleshooting chops and a systematic approach to root-cause analysis. You need to be comfortable solving problems in poorly or under-documented spaces using nothing but First Principles, Oscilloscopes, DMMs, Programmable Power Supplies, and other electrical tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills ; able to juggle multiple proto builds while keeping documentation current (ECOs, rev control, risk logs, etc.).
  • Solid communicator who thrives in a tight-knit, entrepreneurial environment.

Nice-to-Have
  • Familiarity with parametric CAD (Fusion or Solid Works) to collaborate on enclosure and harness layouts.
  • Familiarity with industrial and electrical equipment standards (e.g., NFPA 70, UL 508A and 61010-1)
  • Familiarity with CE marking directives (e.g., Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive).
  • Familiarity with cannabis and/or food-grade processing equipment standards (e.g., FDA 21 CFR).
  • Experience using JLCPCB or similar PCB procurement.
  • Experience using and writing PLC Ladder Logic
    .
