The Water Resources Principal Hydrogeologist and Colorado Growth Area Lead reports to the Practice Area Director and is responsible for leading water resources business growth in Colorado while supporting EKI’s business in California, Washington, Texas, and New England. The Growth Area Lead will manage technical projects, lead strategic initiatives, encourage risk stewardship, and develop business and client relationships.
Projects may include groundwater management assistance, groundwater basin characterization, groundwater modeling, water supply planning and development, potable reuse planning, litigation support, and more.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and manage regional growth focused on Colorado in coordination with the Practice Area Director, including establishing vision, goals, metrics, and priorities.
- Build and sustain a high‑performing team in Colorado.
- Recruit and manage talent, support hiring, training, and professional development.
- Develop and maintain relationships with prospective clients, pursue opportunities, and lead proposal development efforts.
- Design and implement Colorado‑specific strategies, plans, and procedures.
- Track backlog, revenue, and team utilization.
- Lead water resources projects, providing technical guidance and oversight on hydrogeologic conceptual models, water balances, numerical model development, groundwater sustainability plans, water supply assessments, urban water management plans, water supply strategies, integrated plans, water transfers, conservation programs, groundwater well design, construction, and testing.
- Design, develop, and implement quality assurance/quality control protocols for projects and proposals.
- Analyze and interpret data to evaluate regional growth progress against metrics and goals, and prepare reports.
- Provide external leadership and support regional presence in professional groups and forums, including client meetings, conferences, industry associations, and technical committees.
- Participate in strategic plan development and implementation.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, billing, collections, and finance goals for the region.
- Other duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Earth Sciences, or a related field;
Master’s degree preferred. - Ten (10) years of experience as an engineer, hydrogeologist, or planner for water resources projects.
- Registration or licensure as a professional engineer or geoscientist preferred.
- Excellent client management skills with a proven ability to maintain long‑term client relationships.
- Proven track record of executing contracts and developing ongoing and/or expanded services for clients.
- Knowledge of strategic business planning, management, and monitoring.
- Knowledge of and experience with Colorado water planning, management, and development.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to coordinate with clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and the public.
- Ability to lead multiple project teams.
- Demonstrated time management skills, strong work ethic, and attention to detail.
- Commitment to personal and professional growth, including mentorship of others.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Work in a fast‑paced environment with high‑volume workload and frequent short deadlines.
- Lift up to 25 lbs.
- Remain stationary, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Communicate with others to exchange information.
- Assess the accuracy, quality, and thoroughness of assigned work.
- Travel within Colorado and occasionally to other sites such as EKI offices, client offices, and project locations.
- Travel 25 to 40% of the time, occasionally overnight.
$175,000 to $205,000 plus annual incentive compensation based on personal and firm performance.
