Senior Mechanical Engineer – Mission Critical & Advanced Facilities

A nationally recognized MEP consulting firm is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to serve as a technical leader on complex, mission‑critical building projects. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys partnering closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to solve sophisticated engineering challenges.

Engineers in this group work on high‑profile facilities where performance, reliability, and precision are critical. Supported by dedicated project management and BIM resources, this position allows technical leaders to focus on what they do best: designing exceptional mechanical systems and guiding teams toward successful outcomes.

Role Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will act as the technical authority for assigned projects, leading mechanical system design from concept through construction. The role includes direct client interaction, mentoring of junior staff, and collaboration with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology disciplines.

Projects typically include complex commercial, industrial, aviation, mission‑critical, and infrastructure facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the technical lead for mechanical engineering design on complex building projects
  • Lead the design of HVAC systems, including central plant systems and equipment selection
  • Design and coordinate plumbing, fire protection, and specialized fire suppression systems (including AFFF and dry chemical where applicable)
  • Apply expert knowledge of local, state, and national building codes, including mechanical, plumbing, fire, fuel gas, and life‑safety regulations
  • Coordinate design efforts across disciplines to ensure integrated and constructible solutions
  • Delegate and oversee work performed by project engineers, designers, and BIM/CAD staff
  • Mentor and develop junior mechanical engineers through training and technical guidance
  • Act as a trusted technical resource for project teams and clients
  • Support projects through all phases, including construction administration and field coordination
  • Participate in client meetings and technical presentations as needed
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution
  • 8–15 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering design for complex buildings
  • Active Professionalli>
  • Ability and willingness to obtain licensure in multiple U.S. states
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering efforts through all phases of project delivery
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with clients
  • Ability to travel occasionally as required by project needs
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to meet client‑specific background, security, or compliance requirements
