EKI Environment & Water, Inc. (EKI) is an employee‑owned engineering, environmental, and water resources consulting firm serving private‑ and public‑sector clients throughout the United States. The Water Resources Principal Hydrogeologist and Colorado Growth Area Lead position reports to the Practice Area Director (PAD) and is responsible for leading water resources business growth in Colorado while supporting EKI's business in other geographies such as California, Washington, Texas, and New England.
The Growth Area Lead will manage technical projects, lead strategic initiatives, encourage risk stewardship, and develop business and client relationships. Projects may include groundwater management assistance, groundwater basin characterization, groundwater modeling, water supply planning and development, potable reuse planning, litigation support, and more.
Responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Develop and manage regional growth focused on Colorado, in coordination with the Practice Area Director such as:
- Establishing the overall vision, goals, performance metrics, and priorities for the regional growth
- Developing relationships with prospective clients
- Pursuing opportunities and leading proposal development efforts
- Designing and implementing Colorado‑specific strategies, plans, and procedures
- Tracking backlog, revenue, and team utilization
- Recruiting, building, and sustaining a high performing team in Colorado
- Provide expertise, technical guidance, and oversight on water resources projects such as:
- Hydrogeologic conceptual models, water balances, numerical model development, and groundwater sustainability plans
- Water supply assessments and urban water management plans; and/or
- Water supply strategies, integrated plans, water transfers, and water conservation programs
- Groundwater well design, construction, and testing
- Maintain awareness of market, expansion opportunities, innovations, and new industry developments and standards, and identify opportunities to pursue, with a focus on Colorado
- Evaluate regional growth progress by analyzing and interpreting data against metrics and goals, and prepare reports on regional growth progress
- Design, develop, and implement quality assurance/quality control protocols for projects and proposals
- Provide external leadership and support regional presence in professional groups and forums, including leading and participating in client meetings, conferences, industry associations, and/or technical committees
- Participate in strategic plan development and implementation
- Identify hiring and training needs and support the hiring processes
- Support professional development of team members to provide growth opportunities and expand technical capabilities, innovation, and expertise
- Ensure compliance with safety standards for the region to meet the client's objectives
- Support finance and accounting and ensure compliance with billing and collections goals for the region
- Other duties as required
- Bachelor's degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Earth Sciences, or a related field;
Master's degree preferred
- Ten (10) years of experience as an engineer, hydrogeologist, or planner for water resources projects
- Registration or licensure as a professional engineer or geoscientist preferred
- Excellent client management skills with a proven ability to maintain long‑term client relationships
- Proven track record of executing contracts and developing ongoing and/or expanded services for clients
- Knowledge of strategic business planning, management, and monitoring
- Knowledge of and experience with Colorado water planning, management, and development
- Must have effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public
