Overview

JUWI Solar Inc. is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead civil design activities across solar and battery storage projects, manage external consulting engineering firms, and mentor Civil Engineering staff. The role interfaces with Engineering, Project Development, and Construction teams throughout all project phases to ensure high-quality civil design and project execution.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the civil design approach for projects and select external consulting engineers.
  • Review consultantsD work and guide Civil Engineering staff.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Project Development, and Construction teams at all stages of project completion.
Project Development
  • Participate in site selection and layout while evaluating environmental, geotechnical, erosion, and civil risks.
  • Generate development, civil design, and construction budgets.
  • Evaluate site studies and project schedules.
  • Perform preliminary design and calculations for grading, drainage, erosion control, and access road design.
  • Coordinate with the Racking group on layout considerations, factoring topography, access, soil characteristics, and site geometry.
  • Incorporate inputs from Systems and Development Engineering groups related to generation optimization influenced by slope, azimuth, and grading costs.
  • Work with the Development team to apply best-practice civil design for preliminary site layouts.
Consultant Selection and Management
  • Organize development of Scope of Work for land surveying, civil, and geotechnical design consultants across all projects.
  • Manage external land surveying consultants for boundary, ALTA, aerial/topographic, grading verification surveys, easements, and stakeout requirements.
  • Manage external civil consultants for site plans, grading plans, construction drawings, drainage plans, hydrology studies, and stormwater management.
  • Collaborate with external geotechnical engineers on earthwork, foundation design, soil reports, and utility crossings.
  • Assist civil designers and review plans for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with JUWI and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Assist in developing Scopes of Work for civil construction subcontractor agreements and assess bids with recommendations for selection.
  • Review submittals and respond to RFIs from civil subcontractors.
  • Develop and mentor junior Civil Engineer staff in civil design and project execution.
  • Research and apply jurisdiction-specific civil design requirements for site plans and construction drawings.
  • Apply for and maintain local, state, and federal permitting efforts.
  • Evaluate roads adjacent to job sites for use before, during, and after construction.
  • Attend jurisdictional permitting meetings as needed to present project and civil design expertise.
Construction and Job Site Support
  • Coordinate with Construction teams to oversee civil subcontractor on-site performance.
  • Manage JUWI verification methods for grading and civil work to ensure subcontractor compliance with project specifications.
  • Lead construction services to support projects, including responding to RFIs and project correspondence.
  • Travel to potential and active projects to support development and construction teams.
  • Ensure high-quality, safe, and cost-effective design in all aspects of project execution.
Qualifications
  • Degree in civil or environmental engineering.
  • 6–10 years of civil design experience; solar-specific experience preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or HydroCAD and 3D modeling.
  • Professional Engineering license preferred or in process.
  • Knowledge of national civil design codes and requirements (ASTM, ACI, MUTCD, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%–20% and work flexible hours.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary tasks and work autonomously.
  • Team-oriented with a desire to grow professionally and mentor other civil staff.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Target Base Salary: $90,000 – $120,000; negotiable for the right candidate.
