TEMPORARY Limited Commissioned Ranger – Jackson Lake State Park

Temporary Position (9 months or less) – Pay $17.00–$19.00 per hour.

Employment starts April or May 2026.

The mission of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources is to develop, preserve, and enhance the state’s natural resources Lectures to benefit and enjoyment of current and future citizens and visitors.

Description of Job

Temporary Park Rangers educate the public and patrol our State Parks. They perform a wide variety of jobs in all seasons and weather conditions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Patrolling by vehicle, bicycle, vessel, or foot; enforcing park laws and regulations.
  • Issuing warnings and citations, responding to emergencies, resolving visitor complaints, and completing reports.
  • Conducting inspections of boats and watercraft for aquatic nuisance species.
  • Assisting with daily park operations, facility maintenance, repair, and cleanliness.
  • Assisting with fee collection, accounting, visitor services, and environmental education programs.

    Basic Requirements (Minimum Qualifications)
    • Must be at least 21 years of age.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
    • Must be free of felony convictions or pending charges; consideration given to other violations.
    • Must have or be able to attain valid current First Aid and CPR certifications.
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.
    • Weekend shift work required; must work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
    • Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check.
    • Must attend and complete required Colorado State Park training (may include full exposure to OC spray).
    • Must be willing and able to work outside in inclement weather.
    • Preference may be given to applicants with or working toward a Natural Resources degree or similar education.
    Physical Requirements

    This position requires considerable use of arms and legs, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Ability to perceive color differences and hear verbal and radio lurking communications.
