STATEMENT OF DUTIES

SUMMARY OF JOB CLASSIFICATION: Performs entry/developing-level Probation Officer responsibilities, including investigation, assessment, supervision, resource coordination, and monitoring of clients’ court-ordered for services. Completes required training courses and programs.

The primary work location is in Canon City, Colorado.

This position is part of a progressive job series, and placement will be determined based on minimum qualifications and the relevant experience of the successful applicant. Please refer to the links below for detailed job descriptions of the roles within the series.

There are two requisitions posted:
Probation Officer and Senior Probation Officer. We will fill one position within this series based on the district's hiring needs and the qualifications and relevant experience of the selected applicant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Perform case management duties including documenting client related activities, reviewing client documents and court orders, and managing the client's e-file.
  • Conduct face-to-face appointments and interviews. Conduct on-going assessments to determine treatment needs and risk to the community. Develop appropriate case plans to guide supervision and ensure compliance with conditions imposed by the court.
  • Assess, prioritize and respond to critical incidents and potential risks in the field and office. De-escalate hostile/agitated clients and potentially violent situations.
  • Complete a variety of reports to assess criminal behavior. Provide relevant information and sentencing options to court.
  • Submit comprehensive compliance reports to the Court including revocation documents, taking care to protect confidential information. Update the Court as needed and provide professional testimony.
  • Inform staff, stakeholders, and public on Victim Rights Amendment. Respond to community feedback regarding clients and probationers in the community. Collect victim statements/positions for various court proceedings.
  • Collaborate with other judicial districts and states on victim related concerns.
  • Attend meetings and complete training as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONT.

Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees. The work performed by majority of employees is semi complex.

Interactions may result in decisions regarding implementation of policies. Contact may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations. Contacts may involve stressful, negative interactions with the public requiring high levels of tac and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions.

Freedom to Act & Impact of Actions: Employees normally perform the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance reviewed periodically.

Skills:

Work requires comprehensive, practical knowledge of work processes. Incumbent can complete a broad range of work, sometimes complex, without frequent reference to others.

Fiscal Responsibility: May assist in the collection of data in support of recommendations for functional area budget allocations. May monitor division or program/promotional level budget and expenditures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Equivalency: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, human services or related field.

OR

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate's degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, human services or related field and two (2) years of work-related experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, psychology or related field. May be…
