About Vail Health and Vail Valley Surgery Center
Vail Health is an advanced mountain healthcare system with a 520,000‑sq‑ft, 56‑bed hospital, and Vail Valley Surgery Center (VVSC) is a multi‑specialty ambulatory center in the Eagle River Valley. VVSC offers surgical care in orthopedics, gastroenterology, pain management, ophthalmology, ENT, plastic surgery, podiatry, and general surgery.
Position OverviewOperating Room (OR) Technician – assists in surgical care, prepares instruments, monitors sterile field, and anticipates surgeon needs.
Key Responsibilities- Function as scrub person with working knowledge of aseptic technique and AORN Standards.
- Check all items for proper packaging, moisture, seal, sterile indicator, and expiration dates.
- Maintain sterile integrity of all items and fluids introduced onto the field.
- Monitor sterile field and correct contamination events.
- Move around the sterile field in a manner that preserves field integrity.
- Visually check equipment for fraying of cords, plugs, or other damage before use.
- Confirm self‑test pattern when turning on machines.
- Anticipate need for equipment and supplies to eliminate delays in procedures.
- Know the order of use of material and supplies.
- Report changes in room temperature to the appropriate person.
- Remain perceptive to patient’s sensory environment.
- Monitor, evaluate, and revise preference cards.
- Contribute to individualized, ongoing delivery of care within scope of practice.
- Maintain flexibility and appropriate response to changes in priorities, plans, goals, or time frames.
- Support decisions and actions of the Manager or Charge Nurse; respect others.
- Participate in departmental QI program including confidential occurrence reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned; must be HIPAA‑compliant.
- Licensed in Colorado as a Surgical Technician.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- ASTI certification preferred.
- Preferred: one year of OR experience in a hospital setting.
