Electrical Wire Label Preparation Technician

The Electrical Wire Label Preparation Technician is responsible for preparing, printing, organizing, and verifying wire identification labels used in the assembly of electrical switchboards, switch gear, control panels, and related electrical equipment. This position supports production by ensuring wire labels are accurate, properly sequenced, and available prior to manufacturing. Attention to detail and accuracy are critical to maintaining product quality and production efficiency.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Print wire markers and identification labels from engineering documentation.
  • Prepare wire labels according to production schedules and manufacturing priorities.
  • Verify label information against electrical schematics, wire lists, and bills of material (BOMs).
  • Organize labels into production kits for each project or assembly.
  • Ensure labels are printed using the correct material, size, orientation, and print quality.
  • Identify missing, duplicate, or incorrect wire labels and report discrepancies to Engineering or Production.
  • Maintain inventory of label cartridges, heat shrink tubing, label stock, ribbons, and related supplies.
  • Operate wire marking and label printing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assist production personnel with replacement labels and engineering revisions.
  • Maintain clean and organized workstations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve label preparation accuracy and efficiency.
  • Follow all company safety policies and quality procedures.
  • Assist with additional production support activities as assigned.
  • Required knowledge and skills include:

    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to read complex electrical drawings and wiring diagrams.
    • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, specifically Excel).
    • Ability to learn ERP/MRP systems (Job Boss preferred).
    • Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple production jobs.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

    Preferred qualifications include:

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Experience in electrical manufacturing, panel building, or switchboard assembly preferred.
    • Familiarity with electrical wire numbering systems.
    • Experience using Brady, Phoenix Contact, or similar label printers.
    • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wire schedules.

    Physical requirements include:

    • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
    • Frequent use of hands for handling labels and operating equipment.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
    • Good vision, including the ability to distinguish small print and alphanumeric characters.

    Performance expectations include:

    • Maintain high label accuracy with minimal rework.
    • Prepare production label kits on or ahead of schedule.
    • Ensure all labels meet company quality standards.
    • Promptly communicate engineering or documentation discrepancies.
    • Maintain an organized, efficient workspace.
    • Support production by responding quickly to priority requests and engineering changes.

    Success measures include:

    • Label accuracy rate.
    • On-time completion of label kits.
    • Number of production delays caused by labeling errors.
    • Organization and inventory control of labeling supplies.
    • Responsiveness to engineering revisions and urgent production requests.
    • Compliance with safety and quality procedures.

    This position plays a critical role in ensuring electrical assemblies are built accurately and efficiently by providing production personnel with properly prepared wire identification labels before assembly begins.
