THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) - PAYING $20.00 PER HOUR. EMPLOYMENT STARTS April 2026. This application is for all, current, open seasonal positions at the park. Golden Gate Canyon

TEMPORARY TRAIL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN:

The primary role is to maintain, restore, and improve trail tread and trail corridor at Golden Gate Canyon State Park’s 40 mile trail system. Work is often outdoors in backcountry areas with elevations from 7500 to 9500 feet. Technicians work in a team setting and may coordinate with volunteer trail maintenance projects. In emergency situations, technicians assist Park Staff to ensure safety and protect resources.

Other duties as assigned. Subject to background check.

PARK INTERPRETIVE NATURALIST:

This is a customer service based position that involves facilitating park interpretive and environmental education programs. Duties include developing and presenting natural resources/historical programs; scheduling and presenting Junior Ranger, school/group, campfire, guided hikes, outreach, and roving interpretation; working with volunteers and other agencies; marketing programs; developing brochures and materials; assisting at the visitor center; and other duties as assigned. Subject to background check.

  • Schedule, plan and present Junior Ranger programs
  • Schedule, plan and present school and group programs
  • Schedule, plan and present campfire programs and guided hikes
  • Schedule, plan and present outreach programs
  • Provide roving interpretation in campgrounds and day use areas
  • Work with volunteers; may train volunteer naturalists
  • Collaborate with other naturalists and agencies
  • Market and promote attendance; may develop brochures
  • May work at the visitor center front desk
  • May assist with special events
  • Manage park collections (slides, photographs, specimens, etc.)

VISITOR SERVICES TECHNICIAN/GATE ATTENDANT:

A customer service based position involving work in a visitor center or at gate entrances, greeting visitors, or field assignments. Requires effective communication and public relations skills.

  • Staff park entrance station and/or visitor center
  • Provide information and assistance to visitors
  • Sell parks passes, permits, maps, and other items
  • Handle registrations and related transactions
  • Operate a cash register and manage shift reports
  • May assist with campground reservations and address visitor complaints
  • Maintain cleanliness of facilities and perform light maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN:

Responsible for general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities including restrooms, showers, cabins/yurts, guest houses, campsites, and trails. May assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials.

Note:

up to 40 hours per week and up to six months in duration. School schedules can be accommodated. Employee housing may be available for out-of-area applicants.
