Position: TEMPORARY Invasive Species Outreach & Education Technician Mesa County

THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) – PAYING $18.00 PER HOUR. EMPLOYMENT STARTS 05/03/2026 THROUGH 10/31/2026. The mission of Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, provide a quality state parks system, and offer enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado’s natural resources.

Responsibilities
  • Support the State Invasive Species Program through public outreach to non‑motorized water recreation groups.
  • Operate a mobile self‑serve cleaning system throughout the Western Slope, educating outfitters, anglers, hunters, and non‑motorized watercraft users about invasive species and proper cleaning procedures.
  • Provide surveys, attend user group events and expositions, and educate recreational outfitters.
  • Report to the James M. Robb Corn Lake State Park for assignment; boat inspection and outreach training will be provided.
  • When outreach is not needed, support the Program Manager and Invasive Species Specialists with watercraft inspection and decontamination, quality‑control assessment, inventory management, technical‑report review, distribution of supplies to field locations, and data entry.
  • Perform regular overnight travel and long‑distance driving; early‑morning, evening, and weekend work are required.
Requirements
  • Good driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays.
  • Ability to drive long hours and remain alert.
  • Ability to trailer decontamination units on highways and steep mountain roads.
  • Flexibility with weekday and weekend work schedule, as field work may be dictated by weather.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or higher education.

Compliance with State Vehicle Policy
  • Workers expected to drive a state‑owned vehicle must maintain a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any state‑owned vehicle.
  • Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for workers who: have an assigned state fleet vehicle, are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or utilize a state fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.
