General FunctionAs a Delicatessen Clerk, this position will be responsible for handling food in a safe manner and ensuring the work area is always clean and neat. You will run the department registers, receive payments, make change, and provide courteous and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Accountable and reports to District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, Health Wellness Home;
Food Service Director;
Delicatessen Department Manager.
- Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting care, concern, and patience in all interactions.
- Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner throughout the store.
- Make an effort to learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
- Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out‑of‑reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
- Answer the telephone promptly and take customer orders.
- Take orders at the delicatessen counter.
- Work with co‑workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Review orders for the day.
- Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean.
- Review the status and appearance of food for freshness.
- Ensure an adequate food supply is ready and on hand, and develop or follow a production list.
- Anticipate product needs daily, preparing, finishing, and replenishing product as necessary.
- Check in product, put product away, and review invoices.
- Run the department registers and receive payment, making change as applicable.
- Remove trash in a timely manner.
- Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress guidelines, and company policies.
- Report to work when scheduled and on time.
- Wash dishes as necessary.
- Order product and supplies as needed.
- Deliver orders as needed.
- Price products for customers as needed.
- Assist in other store areas as needed.
- Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
- Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.
- Solve arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Less than high school or equivalent experience and six months or less of similar or related work experience.
Physical RequirementsPerform medium work: occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force, frequently 20 pounds, and constantly 10 pounds to move objects. Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet, with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision. Perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
WorkingConditions
Exposed to dust, noise, equipment movement hazards, and electrical shock daily. Occasional exposure to temperature extremes and cleaning chemicals/solvents. Fast‑paced work environment.
