A Kroger Bakery Clerk is responsible for creating a positive customer experience, maintaining a safe and clean environment, supporting departmental sales and quality standards, and demonstrating Kroger’s core values.
Responsibilities- Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
- Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
- Inform customers of bakery specials.
- Provide customers with fresh products and correct portion sizes to prevent shrink.
- Recommend bakery items to meet customer needs.
- Use bakery equipment (refrigerators, freezers, ovens) according to company guidelines.
- Prepare foods per temperature logs and follow cooking/baking instructions.
- Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients per recipe using kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Adequately prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients in merchandise.
- Check product quality for freshness and review sell‑by dates.
- Use kitchen equipment properly (stove, scale, fryer, steamer, robot coupe).
- Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
- Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Understand store layout and locate products when requested.
- Stay current with seasonal and special ads.
- Maintain knowledge of products sold and provide suggestions.
- Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and report discrepancies.
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain logs.
- Promote trust and respect among associates.
- Create a welcoming environment for customers.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Implement safety programs and report unsafe conditions.
- Display a positive attitude.
- Practice preventive maintenance of equipment and notify management.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Report safety risks and illegal activity.
- Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Desire to learn food production and basic cooking techniques.
- Effective communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed.
