Duties
* Perform basic and applied research on solar and solar wind activity on the geo-space environment and AF systems.
* Lead, formulate and conduct basic and applied research through analysis of space, air and ground experiments, in order to develop innovative techniques in space-based hyperspectral imaging data collection and analysis.
* Coordinate and perform complete studies and analysis to support Space Control Operations. Coordinate and perform space control analysis functions and projects required to support current and future space control operational requirements.
* Utilize scientific inquiry in development of software tools as required for Space Control analysis. Attend meetings, conferences, briefings, and seminars related to program planning, advanced technologies, and support system concepts.
* Conduct applied research in area of modeling and simulation of various threats to satellites in orbits and possible defense or mitigation of these threats. Requirements Conditions of employment

* This Public Notice may be used to fill positions in other equivalent pay systems (i.e., NH, NJ, NK). Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Professional and Scientific Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, applicants must also meet the additional requirements as reflected below:
For GS-11
- At least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-09) or equivalent. Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
And consist of plans, organizes, directs and participates in experimental and theoretical research into the basic mechanisms associated with the emission, absorption and transmission of optical radiation in the natural atmosphere. OR Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. in a related field. For GS-12 - At least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-11) or equivalent.
Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties that consists of conduction in-house technical activities and/or provides contract technical direction to programs of considerable breadth, diversity and complexity with minimal oversight. For GS-13
- Atleast one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-12) or equivalent. Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, that consist of designs, implements and tests sophisticated forecast models and computer algorithms to be operationally used in conjunction with space weather applications and other missions;
