Temporary Watercraft Inspector & Decontaminator (9 Months)
Pay: $19.50‑20.50 per hour.
Employment starts 04/27/2026 through 10/31/2026.
Positions AvailableLead and General Watercraft Inspector & Decontaminator.
Responsibilities- Non‑Lead Inspector:
Perform boat inspection and decontamination according to state regulations at Vallecito Reservoir, Durango, CO. Work independently or in pairs to inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, ensuring compliance with invasive species protocols (zebra/quagga mussels). Provide public outreach with printed materials. Work includes early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. - Lead Inspector:
Oversee and conduct boat inspection and decontamination duties, provide on‑the‑job training to staff, create schedules, verify time‑keeping records, resolve staff/customer challenges, recommend hiring/firing decisions, ensure staff follow protocols, maintain data entry accuracy, manage inventory of supplies, perform maintenance on power washer/decontamination units, and provide public outreach. Work includes early morning, evening, weekend, etc.
- Reliable transportation and ability to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, and late evenings.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Reliable and timely.
- Self‑motivation and ability to work independently.
- Compliance with the DNR‑120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive:
- Have an assigned State fleet vehicle.
- Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position.
- Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.
- Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, and/or heavy equipment.
- Excellent customer service skills and/or experience working with the public.
