Pre‑Employment Requirement

The successful new hire must complete fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

Responsibilities

Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Safe School Environments, the position functions as a hybrid Campus Security Officer and Armed Security Patrol Officer, providing leadership and expertise to the on‑site security team and school administrative staff.

  • Act as first responder to lockdowns, lockouts, disturbances, and disorderly calls related to students, parents, and staff on site.
  • Wear the Department of School Safety approved uniform, including both a “soft” and “hard” uniform.
  • Ensure implementation of building security strategies daily.
  • Assist Campus Security Coordinators in creating schedules for campus security officers and supervisors to meet security needs.
  • Review all incident reports, documentation, and evidence collected by Campus Supervisors and/or CSOs.
  • Work in collaboration with principals to make security‑related recommendations that may impact the security budget.
  • Provide input on security equipment needs, dress apparel, and other safety items needed for a safe learning environment.
  • Train newly hired campus security personnel and/or SPOs at the assigned building.
  • Provide leadership and act as mentor to all campus security personnel at the assigned school.
  • Work closely with the Director of Safe School Environments, the Manager of Patrol Operations, Patrol Sergeants, and Campus Security Coordinators regarding safety preparedness.
  • Communicate with first responders, director, manager, sergeants, coordinators, parents, and others during crisis situations.
  • Use two‑way radio systems for immediate communication with schools, Department of School Safety personnel, and first responder agencies.
  • Perform background research on new students from group homes, probation/parole, or with known incidents from other schools.
  • Attend all security meetings at the building level and report relevant information to coordinators and sergeants.
  • Maintain a secure perimeter, monitor exterior doors, document and log problematic entrances/exits.
  • Temporarily detain trespassers or law violators on‑site until arrival of law enforcement.
  • Respond to alarms and dispatched calls, deciding actions based on situation, facts, and limitations.
  • Act as a liaison between school staff, parents, businesses, and external agencies, including law enforcement and fire jurisdictions.
  • Perform other critical safety and security related duties as assigned by the Director of Safe School Environments, Patrol Commander, or Executive Director of School Safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Off‑School Year Duties
  • Train with both Campus Supervisor and Patrol teams.
  • Work with coordinator team to plan team trainings.
  • Patrol support during the work day where and when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Training

High school diploma/GED required, plus a minimum of one year of coursework in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, communications, education, and/or child/youth development. Coursework may be replaced by demonstrated experience. Must have active certifications in Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI), first aid/CPR/AED, and FEMA Incident Command for Schools.

Experience

Minimum of three years’ experience working directly in a criminal justice or security field. Preferred experience working with youth. Excellent verbal communication; problem identification and solving; negotiation and mediation; behavior modification and management.
