Position: Experienced Deputy Sheriff - Patrol (Lateral Program)

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is seeking experienced P.O.S.T. Certified Officers to join our team. We are hiring certified officers with one to three years or more of patrol experience. This is a lateral selection process with the possibility of starting at Step 3 of our compensation plan. Starting pay range for this position is $39.65 - $43.71 per hour, as determined by level of experience.

What you’ll be doing

Provide law enforcement duties, including protection of citizens and crime prevention, while maintaining security and preserving order. You may perform duties of the Deputy Non‑Certified if assigned to the jail.

  • Effectively communicate to provide information, direction, mediation, and de‑escalate situations and resolve conflicts.
  • Determine when there is reasonable suspicion to detain and when probable cause exists to search and arrest, and when appropriate force may be used and to what degree.
  • Subdue resisting suspects using approved techniques of arrest control, defensive tactics, and weapons; resort to the use of hands, feet, and other approved weapons in defense of self or others.
  • Pursue fleeing suspects.
  • Testify and attend court and speak in other formal settings as necessary.
  • Read, comprehend, prepare, and process legal and non‑legal documents.

  • Colorado P.O.S.T. Certification, certification from another state, or the ability to obtain a provisional license.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age by date of hire.
  • Colorado P.O.S.T. Certification required.
  • First aid and community CPR certificates required within 12 weeks from date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Cannot have a felony conviction.
  • No convictions involving domestic violence.
  • No use of illegal drugs within the past 5 years.
