Summary:The Fleet Service Technician II, is responsible for performing annual CDE inspection as well as inspecting, diagnosing, and performing major repairs on school buses, vans, trucks, and a variety of powered fleet equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. This role services all vehicle systems, including braking, electrical, HVAC, steering, suspension, drivetrain, fuel, hydraulic, and cooling systems, and independently performs complex diagnostics and the replacement or overhaul of major components such as engines and transmissions.
Work is performed in shop and field settings, including emergency service calls and adverse weather conditions. The position prepares vehicles for emissions and opacity testing, and provides guidance to other mechanics. This position accurately documents repairs, parts, and labor using fleet management software, and supports snow removal operations and performs school bus driver duties as assigned.
- Inspect, diagnose, and perform major repairs on school buses, vans, trucks, power mowers, tractors and powered equipment. Inspect, diagnose, and perform repairs on all fleet vehicle systems including but not limited to air/hydraulic/electrical braking, interior/exterior body, electrical, heating/air conditioning, steering, suspension, power train, drive train, fuel, Hydraulic, and cooling systems. Work is performed in a shop or field setting, including emergency service calls and adverse weather conditions.
- Replace and/or Overhaul heavy components, such as, engines, transmissions, rear end assemblies.
- Prepare vehicles for exhaust emission/opacity sampling and testing by performing air pollution control maintenance, inspection, diagnosis, and repair.
- Perform School Bus Driver duties as assigned and report for snow duty, as required, to support snow removal operations.
- Assist other workers in diagnosis, inspection, and repair of vehicles and equipment.
- Accurately record repairs made, parts used, and time worked, through use of fleet management software.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three years experience in:
Vehicle Maintenance. - Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
- Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
- Possess or obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License with P and S endorsements with no restrictions for air brake; must acquire within 60 working days.
- Obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certificate; must acquire within 60 working days
- Pre-employment/post offer examination; required at entry
- Submit Motor Vehicle Record and be insurable per CSDSIP; required at entry
- CDE Inspectors Certificate; must acquire within 90 working days
- Must have a valid Colorado driver's license.
- Fleet software; must acquire a working knowledge within 60 working days
- Must have required tools and tool box; required at entry
- ASE certificate and/or Master
- Must have knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Knowledge of the principles and mechanics of internal combustion engines.
- Skill in locating and adjusting defects in automotive equipment.
- Ability to keep simple records.
- Light or medium fabrication skills.
- Ability to operate air conditioning, emission testing and other types of technical diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to adapt available tools and repair parts to specific repair problems and to fabricate and install parts and tools.
- Ability to operate motorized equipment.
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
