As a Broadband Technician II
, you will perform intermediate to complex installations, disconnects and service changes for residential customers, including FTTH (Fiber to the Home RFoG and GPON). These services include, but are not limited to, video service, HSD Services, and home phone service. The role involves moderate troubleshooting from the tap to the customer's electronic devices (TV, DVD, Modem, etc.) and underground or aerial construction, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic and coax cable.
You should be knowledgeable of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within telecommunications.
Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the employee must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Berthoud, Colorado warehouse (266 Basher Dr Unit 4, Berthoud, CO 80513).
The anticipated shift is Tuesday through Saturday, 8 am–5 pm with an on‑call rotation required.
This position can be hired at the Broadband Technician I, II, or III level depending on skills and qualifications. Please reference each job posting for the minimum qualifications required and apply for the level(s) you are interested in.
Responsibilities- Perform intermediate and complex installation of all necessary cable wiring and hardware from the tap/MST to customer equipment for cable and other company services offered to single, multi‑family, or commercial dwellings over fiber optic and coax delivery methods. May inspect and correct NESC safety violations, coordinate underground drop burial with contractors and crews, fill out and submit permits, and update status within systems.
Ensure work meets all construction and government standards. - Perform connects, disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, relocations, additional outlet installations, fiber connections, and hard‑line cutovers; install or remove equipment (e.g., converters) at single or multiple unit dwellings.
- Use test equipment to identify and repair signal strength issues and ensure optimum reception both optical and RF. Employ locators, TDR, FDR, OTDR and read system maps, interpretation of system maps, calculate signal loss, and update blueprints. This may include climbing poles, ladders, towers, or using a bucket truck.
- Perform all work in accordance with quality control guidelines and regulatory requirements such as OSHA, FCC, NEC, and NESC.
- Monitor and record system, drop, and in‑house leakage; log all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals.
- Promote cable, internet, and other company services; educate customers on proper use of services and equipment.
- Required Qualifications
- 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience – or current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
- 6+ months of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation, and switch training.
- Valid driver's license.
- Follow TDS attendance guidelines.
- Other Qualifications
- Successful completion of customer‑specific background check.
- Availability for on‑call/standby responsibilities, occasional travel, and overtime.
- Pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
- Maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with GVRW >10,000 lb.
- Reliable, responsible, strong work ethic and team orientation.
- Practical knowledge of computer applications or burial construction.
- Familiarity with company products and services.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to multi‑task with limited instruction.
- Demonstrated customer service, sales, and effective communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
