E. This role performs advanced troubleshooting from the tap to the customer's electronic devices (TV, DVD, Modem, etc.) and is responsible for installing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and copper cable. The technician must be familiar with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of telecommunications.
Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the technician must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Berthoud, Colorado warehouse located at 266 Basher Dr Unit 4, Berthoud, CO 80513.
The anticipated shift for this role will be Tuesday through Saturday, 8am-5pm with an on‑call rotation required.
This position can be hired at either a Broadband Technician I (Requisition # ), Broadband Technician II (Requisition # ), or Broadband Technician III (Requisition # ) level depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate. Different job postings exist for each of these positions. Responsibilities- Perform complex installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap to the customer’s equipment for reception of cable and other company services offered for single, multi‑family, and/or commercial dwellings. This may include subject‑matter expertise related to the RF distribution of signals, system architecture, actives, passives, coaxial cable, signal types, and maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Perform connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects (requested and non‑pays), upgrades, downgrades, and relocations; install additional outlets, fiber connections, hardline cutovers, and install or remove equipment (i.e. converters).
- Conform to quality control guidelines and comply with applicable regulations such as OSHA, FCC, NEC, and NESC.
- Test equipment to identify and repair signal strength issues and ensure optimum reception. Use locators, TDRs, FDRs, and read system maps required.
- Monitor and record system, drop, and in‑house leakage; properly record all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.
- Promote cable, internet, and other company services; educate customers on proper use of the service, including how to add additional services, channel lineups, proper equipment usage, and other services that are available.
- 2+ years technical telecommunications experience –OR– current/present military service with honorable discharge.
- 1+ year of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation and repair, or switch training.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet TDS's business needs.
- Upon hire, must successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
- Requires being available for on‑call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel; must be willing to work overtime as needed.
- Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
- Maintain DOT requirements in relation to operating vehicles with a combined GVRW of >10,000 lbs.
- Certify proficiency in RF distribution of signals; all aspects of the network from the optical node to the distribution tap are included in this certification curriculum.
