Job Overview

We’re looking for a Plant Maintenance Technician to join our team and help maintain the equipment and systems that keep our water treatment plants running safely and efficiently. If you have experience in water utilities, industrial maintenance, or equipment maintenance, we encourage you to apply!

Essential Job Functions
  • Manages preventative maintenance for the water treatment processing plants. Includes mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and chemical feed systems and storage tanks.
  • Repairs and installs plant equipment such as chemical pumps and feeders, chemical tank cleaning/inspections, pumps and motors, mixers and drives, valves and gates, air compressors, plant piping systems, valves, PRVs (Pressure Reducing Valves), and other related equipment and repairs.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses machinery and process equipment.
  • Coordinates and oversees repairs with vendors and contractors.
  • Maintains work orders, service requests and all inventory and specifications for preventive maintenance programs.
  • Assesses and tracks equipment condition for asset management.
  • Assists with creating and maintaining standard operating procedures for plant equipment and processes.
  • Monitors and maintains plant solids collection and drying processes and assists with disposal.
  • Responds to internal customer concerns/requests promptly, provides effective services or solutions for customers.
  • Demonstrates a respectful attitude towards customers and co-workers.
  • Responds to emergency situations, whether in the regular workday or after hours.
  • Communicates with supervision and/or coworkers on system needs and assignments, informs Management and/or Supervision of systems repair and inventory needs.
  • Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment for self and co-workers, follows city’s safety procedures and policies.
  • Uses initiative, judgment and good decision making within the scope of assigned authority.
  • Frequently operates a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations throughout the City.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of water treatment principles, water distribution equipment, operations and maintenance.
  • Solid knowledge of piping/plumbing of small to large pipes using various materials.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment repairs, replacement and modifications.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical DC/AC 24

    VDC to 480

    VAC.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, maps, and SOPs.
  • Basic understanding of controls systems function and purpose.
  • Working knowledge of State and Federal drinking water regulations.
  • Ability to cover plant operator shifts.
  • Basic ability to use computer platforms.
  • Solid ability to operate equipment and machinery relating to plant mechanics; boom truck, forklifts, frontier loader, skid steer, pumps and power and hand tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose machinery and process equipment.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn City safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
License & Certification

Obtain a Class “D” State of Colorado Water Treatment Certification within one (1) year of hire. A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.

Education

Degree:
High School/GED

Work Experience

Related:
Three (3) years working with water utilities and/or industrial plant maintenance or equipment maintenance. Three (3) years experience working with heavy equipment.

Other Qualifications

Must pass a criminal background check and a driving record check, if required by the position.

Physical Demands
