Job Duties- Operate trucks and light equipment to complete highway maintenance work.
- Operate tractors with attachments (discs, harrows, seeders, sprayers, hand mowers) to maintain highways and right-of-way.
- Operate post drivers for installation of signs, fences, guardrails and other hand‑held power and manual tools.
- Perform tree trimming and brush cutting.
- Maintain yards and perform building maintenance and cleaning.
- Paint buildings and structures.
- Conduct concrete and bituminous patching and seal highway cracks.
- Manually provide highway traffic control for construction and maintenance projects following safety procedures.
- Physically move, drag, lift, load, and unload equipment, materials, supplies, and hazardous materials within weight restrictions; spread and tamp surfacing materials.
- Perform routine and general maintenance and mechanical repair on equipment.
- Apply chemicals, selective and non‑selective herbicide sprays to the highway right‑of‑way.
- May be assigned to night shift with set times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum age 18 years.
- Valid driver’s license.
- For Senior:
Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and tanker endorsements required within 60 days of employment. - Preferred:
Experience operating heavy equipment or farming background. - Preferred:
Valid Class A CDL with tanker endorsement. - Preferred:
Commercial Pesticide applicator’s license. - Basic computer experience.
- Ability to be on call and respond during non‑scheduled hours, including holidays and weekends.
- Work in adverse weather and during traffic management activities.
- Reliable attendance; able to report within 45 minutes to highway emergencies.
- Must safely move, drag, and lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally, and 90 pounds infrequently with assistance.
- Work outdoors in temperature extremes and around high‑speed traffic.
- Read, communicate effectively, follow directions with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer and arithmetic skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology and processes.
- Demonstrate quality and urgency in task performance.
- Maintain safe practices and respectful interactions with coworkers and supervisors.
