University Accounting Operations, under the Office of the University Controller, has the mission to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data in the university’s Oracle financial system. This department is responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of processing departmental journal entries, wires, remote check deposits, and for reconciling and analyzing balance sheet accounts. The department prepares and files various surveys, reports, and returns for submission to external organizations.
The Accountant reports directly to the Manager, Accounting, and applies generally accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely reconciliations, and ensure appropriate internal control procedures are met.
- Prepares and reconciles various balance sheet accounts including prepaids and accrued liabilities, ensuring journal entries are recorded in a timely manner.
- Identifies, researches, and resolves discrepancies and irregularities in assigned accounts.
- Prepares account analyses, journal entries, and reconciliations during the closing process; interacts with external auditors during interim and year‑end audit processes; actively participates in finance projects and cross‑functional initiatives to drive process improvements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization, conferred by the start date; substitute with equivalent education, training, and experience if applicable.
- Preferred:
Bachelor in Accounting or Business from an accredited university; experience in accounting; advanced proficiency in MS Excel (v‑lookups, pivot tables, macros); basic knowledge of AI‑enabled productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot; excellent verbal and written communication; detail oriented, accurate, and organized; ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines; team player.
