This opportunity is with a leading provider of mission-critical data center solutions as a Managed Services Provider and an Owner's Representative for Construction Services. We are looking for a Data Center Construction Project Director / PX to support critical facility construction projects. The Construction Director will manage and oversee data center construction projects, upgrades, and retrofits in a production environment on behalf of the owner. Responsibilities include leading project managers, coordinating contractors and vendors, delivering projects on budget and on time, and ensuring scope and quality meet company design standards and objectives.
The ideal candidate is exceptionally organized and skilled in back-office tasks such as change orders, budgets, and paperwork.
- Maintain liaison with contractors and vendors to manage daily activities that impact delivery of critical facilities construction projects.
- Oversee a team of project managers responsible for greenfield, brownfield, upgrade, or retrofit projects within the portfolio, providing guidance and direction.
- Lead project management and construction activities, managing teams of construction professionals including PMs and superintendents.
- Manage data center construction projects with budgets ranging from $5 MM to $500 MM+.
- Handle multiple projects simultaneously, assist senior project manager in negotiating vendor contracts, and create and manage project schedules.
- Prepare project plans—size up, cost, budget, schedule, timeline, and change orders.
- Assist with reporting and RFPs to contractors.
- Deliver built-to-suit projects with a heavy emphasis on value engineering.
- Enforce company standards for project delivery across all projects.
- Manage financial aspects of contracts (progress billing, rental equipment, income/expenses) to protect company interests while maintaining client relationships.
- Represent the company in project meetings.
- Act as key liaison with managers of all company departments.
- Maintain logs required to track project progress.
- Leverage an extensive network within the mission-critical data center facilities market.
- Apply background in critical facilities design, architecture, engineering, and construction services.
- Experience managing data center construction projects as an owner or general contractor/GC/trade.
- Previous experience managing a diverse team of senior construction project managers on multi-million dollar projects.
- 8–15+ years of relevant experience in the data center construction industry and MEP construction.
- Client-facing, client relationship, and client management skills.
- PMP certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with the design process of building systems for data center and mission-critical projects.
- Solid construction project management experience.
- Effective communication skills—email, phone, and face-to-face.
- Military or veteran experience (all branches) is a huge plus, with expertise in electrical/mechanical.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong administrative skills—email, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Project).
