Teacher, Reading (Part-Time) – Loudoun County Public Schools – Stone Bridge High School, Ashburn, Virginia

The Reading Teacher role is to provide expert attention to the needs of students in the area of reading and support teachers in the implementation of effective reading instruction.

• Assess the reading strengths and needs of students, provide that information to parents and educational staff, and use the results to plan and implement an effective reading program for the students
• Coordinate the administration of literacy assessments, examine the use of data from the assessments, and monitor student progress
• Provide reading intervention to students who are struggling with reading
• Support, supplement, and extend classroom teaching to implement a quality‑reading program that meets the needs of students and work with teachers, support staff, and school administrators to facilitate the coordination of the reading program with the total curriculum
• Lead professional development in literacy, provide information on literacy methodology, model strategies or techniques, conduct demonstration or collaborative lessons, and coach or mentor teachers
• Complete reading and writing training provided by the school division and other trainings as requested
• Maintain an in‑depth knowledge of the Virginia Standards of Learning curriculum standards in reading
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor for reading

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an approved graduate‑level reading specialist preparation program.

Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of reading was an important responsibility.

Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignment(s).

Hold or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a reading specialist.

Knowledge of current research and best practices in the field of reading.

Regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly, possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Ability to travel and navigate to multiple locations occasionally within a single day is required.
