Content Specialist, EL Professional Learning

Job Overview

The Content Specialist, EL Professional Learning is responsible for providing leadership and support in the implementation and alignment of the department’s instructional strategic actions. This position will collaborate with other content specialists, coaches, and facilitators and division and school-based staff in the support of deeper learning. This position will also be responsible for designing and delivering quality professional development on the utilization of effective instructional strategies in support of achieving deeper learning in classrooms by working with division and school leadership.

• Collaborates with and builds capacity of department staff to utilize research-based best practices to support schools with achieving a strong and effective learning culture.
• Provides professional development and coaching for equitable and culturally responsive environments, to include project-based learning, performance assessments, and personalized learning.
• Collaborates with curriculum leaders to make certain all student needs and experiences are affirmed and included in the curriculum. Further collaborates with curriculum leaders to support the development and implementation of curriculum aligned to deeper learning.
• Collaborates with key staff and external partners to develop, implement, reflect on, and refine professional learning plans in support of deeper learning.
• Employs effective coaching strategies based on research and best practices.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree

Experience

At least three (3) years’ successful teaching experience

Licenses and Certifications

Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License

• Knowledge of what constitutes effective teaching and learning
• Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills necessary for building strong rapport and relationships with teachers and administrators
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Uses a team approach and collaboration to accomplish tasks and promote collaboration to improve instruction and student learning
• Knowledge of effective teaching and learning including: culturally responsive instruction, deeper learning, and other student-centered instructional frameworks
