Teacher Assistant, Special Education (1:1)
Loudoun County Public Schools
Rock Ridge High School - Ashburn, Virginia
This role provides instructional support, training, and personal assistance to teachers of students with physical or intellectual disabilities. The assistant works directly 1:1 with an assigned student who requires additional support.
Roles and Responsibilities- Assist the teacher by performing instructional duties and preparing classroom materials.
- Supervise student behavior and apply specific behavior management techniques.
- Collect and record student data such as skill practice, seizure occurrences, and toileting.
- Provide discipline in the teacher’s absence, maintaining consistency with established procedures.
- Implement behavior modification plans.
- Practice individual speech sounds, vocabulary, and syntax objectives directed by the speech therapist.
- Read to students and ask questions to stimulate language development; present language activities involving expressive and receptive areas.
- Supervise learning centers during independent student work and assist students in manipulating materials.
- Participate in classroom activities such as discussions and games.
- Operate computer and audiovisual equipment such as DVD, data projector, or smartboards.
- Perform related work as required.

High school diploma or GED. - Experience

Experience as a teacher aide or working with children. - Licenses and Certifications

:- Work under the supervision of the teacher, following lesson plans.
- Effectively work with individual children and small groups, meeting instructional objectives.
- Physical ability to lift, position, and assist students as required.
- Accept and adapt to differences in student characteristics and abilities.
- Operate standard office equipment and learn to operate video equipment.
- Perform individual medical procedures when necessary.
- Maintain good human relations and communication skills; exercise patience and flexibility.
- Regularly talk, express, or exchange ideas by spoken word.
- Convey detailed or important spoken instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Possess normal cognitive abilities and learn, recall, and apply policies and practices.
- Frequently sit or remain in a stationary position for long periods.
- Occasionally exert up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
- Reports to:
Principal. - Salary Range: $21.40 - $24.08.
