Job OverviewThe Athletics Administrator ensures compliance with Virginia High School League (VHSL) regulations while planning, organizing, and supervising all aspects of the athletic program, including facilities, scheduling, transportation, and coach orientation. The role also represents the school at required meetings, oversees coaches and co‑curricular activities, manages safety and equipment needs, coordinates approved fundraising, and contributes to committees focused on improving the overall athletic program.
Roles and Responsibilities- Ensure compliance with the rules of the Virginia High School League and the Regional and District councils.
- Plan, organize, and schedule the athletic programs; supervise and prepare the athletic game fields.
- Attend County, District, Regional, and State meetings as required; promote positive public relations.
- Secure athletic practice facilities for games and practices; arrange transportation for away events through the Transportation Department; orient coaches in executing their responsibilities.
- Serve on special committees and attend work sessions involving continued growth and improvement of the overall athletic program.
- Supervise coaches and sponsors in their co‑curricular activities; inspect facilities, equipment, and supplies for the safety and well‑being of participants; coordinate fundraising activities approved by the Principal; evaluate the athletic programs.
Education
Bachelor’s degree
Experience
Teaching, administrative, or Athletic Director experience, preferably with secondary‑level coaching experience.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
- Leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for effective teamwork with athletes, coaches, students, administrators, staff, parents, and the community.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Effective time‑management abilities.
Regular speaking, clear instruction delivery, normal cognitive abilities for learning and applying policies, frequent sitting or stationary periods, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, and the occasional minimal exertion to move objects.
