JOB

SUMMARY

The Senior Architect supports data center development projects from early site evaluation through Issue-For-Construction (IFC) design, with primary responsibility for coordination and oversight of civil, structural, and architectural (CSA) scopes. This role acts as an internal technical resource and, as needed, serves in a design manager capacity, coordinating external consultants, aligning design deliverables with project schedules, and managing risk across disciplines.

The Senior Architect is an owner-side role focused on design oversight, coordination, and decision support, rather than production drafting. The position supports turnkey and powered shell delivery models and works closely with development, engineering, and construction teams to ensure cohesive, buildable, and scalable campus and facility designs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Support early-stage site and feasibility assessments, including review of site layouts, zoning constraints, massing studies, and campus planning concepts.
  • Act as the internal CSA-focused technical resource supporting development, engineering, and construction teams.
  • Manage and coordinate external civil, structural, and architectural consultants to ensure designs align with project goals, internal standards, tenant requirements, and applicable codes.
  • As needed, serve in a design manager role on assigned projects, coordinating consultant scopes, deliverables, schedules, and design phase progression.
  • Review architectural, structural, and civil design documents at all phases for constructability, coordination, and consistency with basis-of-design narratives.
  • Support client (tenant) programming efforts by reviewing technical requirements related to building envelope, structural loading, floor elevations, future expansion, and fit‑out flexibility.
  • Coordinate CSA scopes with internal electrical and mechanical engineering leads to ensure fully integrated facility designs.
  • Review and support development of site civil infrastructure concepts, including grading, drainage, roadways, and utility corridors.
  • Support preparation of RFQs/RFPs, proposal exhibits, and responses to client technical inquiries.
  • Participate in project meetings with internal stakeholders, consultants, utilities, AHJs, and tenants as required.
  • Support entitlement, permitting, and zoning efforts by reviewing submittals and attending meetings or hearings as needed.
  • Provide design support during construction, including review of RFIs, change requests, and design clarifications.
  • Contribute to standardization efforts, including development of typical details, planning guidelines, and CSA reference standards.
  • Travel up to ~30% as required by project needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • External consultant supervision only.
  • This role may mentor junior staff or coordinate multidisciplinary teams but does not initially include direct reports.
  • This role may evolve into a discipline lead position depending on experience and organizational needs.
