Harris is searching for an Electrical Manufacturing Engineer to support the Unmanned Systems business in Ashburn, VA. This role is responsible for creating, validating, and maintaining electrical inspection, validation equipment, processes, and documentation. The engineer will be a key part of the Integrated Product Team to develop and execute validation and test plans, and collaborate with other engineering disciplines, program management, quality assurance, and manufacturing.
The role is part of the Agile Development Group that specializes in developing next‑generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS/UAV), advanced radar systems, and other RF sensor technologies.
- Research, define, design, analyze, and validate production tests for products.
- Design, develop, and maintain tools, fixtures, and scripts used to automate board level and assembly level testing.
- Research, define, design, analyze, and validate production tests for new products.
- Examine early assembly prototyping/testing to provide feedback in the design process.
- Identify and justify capital equipment needs for capacity and capability expansion.
- Provide technical mentorship for the team in areas of expertise.
- Contribute to CAM and IPT activities.
- Initiate and review manufacturing workflow and processes/procedures such as:
- Work/assembly instructions
- Rework and modification instructions
- Travelers/routers
- Special process instructions
- Standard repair instructions
- Review and approve drawings for the Manufacturing Department (i.e., sign‑off authority).
- Communicate information between the design and manufacturing teams and ensure that design feedback from manufacturing is relayed to engineering.
- Lead and support Lean Manufacturing initiatives in the organization such as 5S, Tool Control, etc.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
- Up to 5% travel may be required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering and minimum 2 years of prior relevant engineering experience, or a Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 6 years of prior engineering experience.
- Master’s degree in relevant engineering field or related field and/or equivalent experience desired.
- Experience leading small teams.
- Running automated and manual test scripts for acceptance testing, software/firmware loading, and sensor calibration.
- Experience with technical writing, specifically work instructions and process documentation.
- Experience in aviation or military systems manufacturing.
- Experience with creating and presenting performance metrics.
- Experience with Capital Equipment justification and BOEs.
- Excellent people skills to include collaborating in a multi‑disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation).
- Experience/certification in lean practices; 5S, Six Sigma.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Washington, D.C. is $73,000 - $136,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary; final offer may vary based on experience and geographic location. L3
