I'm looking for a senior technical field professional responsible for leading complex installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and modernization activities for medium- and high-voltage switch gear systems. This role serves as the on-site technical authority, ensuring safe execution of work, delivering high-quality customer support, leading field teams, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
The successful candidate combines advanced electrical and mechanical expertise with strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to support critical power infrastructure across industrial, utility, commercial, and mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities- iesLead field installation, commissioning, maintenance, and service activities for medium- and high-voltage switch gear systems, including air-insulated switch gear (AIS), gas-insulated switch gear (GIS), metal-clad and metal-enclosed switch gear, circuit breakers, protective relays, bus systems, current transformers (CTs), potential transformers (PTs), and control power equipme
- nt.
Plan and perform advanced diagnostics to identify and resolve electrical, mechanical, and protection/control system issues, including intermittent faults and complex system interactio - ns.
Conduct or oversee acceptance testing, preventive maintenance, and condition-based testing, includi - ng:
Insulation resistance test - ing Hipot and VLF testing (where applicab
- le)
Contact resistance test - ing Breaker timing and travel analy
- sis Primary and secondary injection test
- ing Protective relay verificat
- ionSCADA/RTU I/O validat
- ion Commission protective relay systems and perform end-to-end functional verification using approved settings, logic, and engineering documentati
- on.
Interpret, verify, and update electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, logic diagrams, and as-built documentati - on.
Ensure strict compliance with electrical safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), arc-flash protection, energized work restrictions, job hazard analyses, and permit require men - ts.
Troubleshoot and repair control circuits, auxiliary systems, interlocks, close/trip circuits, charging motors, heaters, communications equipment, and related control componen - ts.
Direct corrective maintenance activities including breaker overhauls, mechanism adjustments, alignment, lubrication, SF6 gas handling (where applicable), and component replaceme - nt.
Provide technical leadership during planned outages, commissioning events, emergency response, and equipment recovery efforts while communicating progress, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholde - rs.
Produce detailed field service reports, commissioning documentation, testing records, punch lists, and nonconformance reports while ensuring customer acceptance and project closeo - ut.
Coordinate with engineering, project management, manufacturing, and supply chain teams regarding technical issues, warranty support, replacement parts, and root cause investigatio - ns.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians by reviewing work quality, providing technical coaching, and promoting best practic - es.
Deliver customer training covering equipment operation, maintenance practices, and safety consideratio - ns.
Identify equipment modernization and upgrade opportunities, including retrofit solutions, protection system improvements, and digital monitoring enhancement
- ions Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Technology, or equivalent practical field experie
- nce.
Typically eight (6-8) or more years of progressively responsible experience servicing medium- and high-voltage switch gear, circuit breakers, and protection and control syst - ems.
Demonstrated experience leading field service teams during complex commissioning and maintenance proje - cts.
Strong understanding of electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E, OSHA, or applicable regional regulati - ons.
Proficiency interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and one-line drawi - ngs.
Ability to prepare accurate technical reports, testing documentation, and service reco - rds.
