Critical Facilities Engineer

We are connecting with Critical Facilities Engineers for current and upcoming data center opportunities across Ashburn and Northern Virginia. These positions may be available within data center operations, facilities engineering, technical services, maintenance, or mission-critical infrastructure teams.

The roles are suited to engineers who can operate confidently in live environments where uptime, safety, procedural discipline, and rapid problem-solving are essential.

• Operating and monitoring critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
• Completing scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance.
• Responding to alarms, equipment faults, and facility incidents.
• Performing routine inspections and recording equipment readings.
• Supporting electrical or mechanical switching activities.
• Following approved methods of procedure, standard operating procedures, and emergency operating procedures.
• Identifying single points of failure and escalating operational risks.
• Coordinating specialist vendors, contractors, and maintenance providers.
• Reviewing permits, risk assessments, and technical work plans.
• Supporting equipment upgrades, capacity expansions, and infrastructure projects.
• Assisting with testing, commissioning, and system turnover.
• Investigating faults and contributing to root-cause analysis.
• Maintaining accurate operational logs and maintenance records.
• Participating in emergency-response and business-continuity activities.

• Uninterruptible power supply systems.
• Standby generators.
• Low-voltage and medium-voltage switch gear.
• Transformers and electrical distribution equipment.
• Automatic transfer switches.
• Chillers and cooling systems.
• Computer room air-conditioning equipment.
• Pumps, air-handling units, and ventilation systems.

Relevant experience may have been gained within:

• Military or other high-availability operations.

• Experience operating or maintaining complex facility infrastructure.
• A practical understanding of electrical or mechanical systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding ability.
• The confidence to respond calmly during operational incidents.
• Experience following formal safety and maintenance procedures.
• The ability to interpret technical drawings and equipment documentation.
• Clear communication and accurate record keeping.
• Willingness to work within a shift-based operational environment.

A technical degree, military engineering background, apprenticeship, trade qualification, or equivalent facilities experience may be considered depending on the opportunity.

Relevant electrical, mechanical, HVAC, safety, or facilities-management certifications may be advantageous.

Opportunities will be centered around Ashburn and the wider Northern Virginia data center corridor.

Base salary, shift differential, overtime, bonus, healthcare, retirement benefits, and paid leave will vary between employers and positions.
