Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee and execute all aspects of our client's accounting and financial reporting functions. This role requires a highly hands‑on professional with deep expertise in construction accounting, including percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition and Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) reporting.
The Controller will serve as a key business partner to senior leadership, providing financial insight into project performance, while ensuring the integrity of financial data and compliance with applicable accounting standards. This position offers a defined path toward advancement into a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role based on performance and business growth.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and perform the full-cycle accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting
- Lead and execute the monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Develop, maintain, and analyze Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules
- Perform detailed job costing and project margin analysis, including cost tracking and revenue recognition
- Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to monitor project performance, forecasts, and cost variances
- Prepare cash flow projections, manage working capital, and support financial planning activities
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third‑party professionals
- Establish and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to support a growing organization
- Identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Minimum of 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in the construction industry
- Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) reporting
- Job cost accounting and project‑based financial management
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a hands‑on capacity, managing both transactional and strategic responsibilities
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
