Responsibilities
Peaton is seeking a Senior Cloud Architect to lead enterprise cloud architecture, migration, and modernization initiatives supporting mission‑critical systems. This high‑impact role defines secure, scalable, and resilient multi‑cloud and hybrid solutions aligned to federal compliance standards and operational objectives in support of CBP analytics and intelligence programs.
The Cloud Architect provides technical leadership across architecture design, governance, automation, and performance optimization, ensuring secure cloud adoption at scale.
Support will be provided across multiple mission locations:
- Ashburn, VA
- Sterling, VA
- Washington, D.C.
- Define enterprise cloud standards, reference architectures, and design patterns.
- Architect secure, scalable, and resilient multi‑cloud and hybrid solutions.
- Lead adoption of emerging cloud technologies aligned to mission objectives.
- Design for high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
- Lead large‑scale migrations of applications, databases, and analytics platforms.
- Conduct readiness assessments, risk analysis, and dependency mapping.
- Develop migration roadmaps, runbooks, and optimization strategies.
- Ensure data integrity and operational continuity with minimal downtime.
- Establish governance frameworks for identity, access, cost, and resource management.
- Ensure compliance with NIST, FedRAMP, ISO 27001, and federal security standards.
- Implement encryption, zero‑trust architecture, and audit‑ready controls.
- Align cloud solutions with enterprise cybersecurity strategy.
- Drive Infrastructure‑as‑Code and CI/CD integration.
- Enable secure, automated deployments and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
- Promote Dev Sec Ops best practices across engineering teams.
- Architect monitoring, autoscaling, and observability solutions.
- Optimize performance, reliability, and cloud spend.
- Proactively identify and mitigate operational risks.
- Serve as senior technical advisor to IT and executive leadership.
- Mentor engineering teams and communicate architectural decisions clearly.
- Align cloud strategy with mission and program priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA;
Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA. 12 years with HS diploma/equivalent can be considered in lieu of degree. - 5+ years of experience in enterprise IT systems, including cloud architecture leadership.
- Demonstrated experience leading large‑scale cloud migrations.
- Deep expertise in AWS, Azure, or GCP architecture and services.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools (Terraform, Cloud Formation, ARM).
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, Power Shell).
- Strong understanding of cloud security frameworks, governance, and compliance standards.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required CBP BI suitability.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related discipline preferred.
- AWS Solutions Architect – Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Professional Cloud Architect certification.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with migration tools (AWS Migration Hub, Azure Migrate, etc.).
- Experience with cloud financial management and cost optimization strategies.
- Experience supporting federal or highly regulated environments.
