A Fiber Splicer is a skilled technician responsible for installing, splicing, testing, and maintaining fiber optic cables used to deliver high-speed telecommunications and data services. This role is critical to ensuring reliable network performance with minimal signal loss.

Key Responsibilities
  • Splice fiber optic cables using fusion or mechanical splicing techniques
  • Prepare, strip, clean, and align fiber strands prior to splicing
  • Install, maintain, and repair fiber optic cable systems (aerial, underground, and inside plant)
  • Test fiber networks using equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and light sources to ensure signal quality
  • Troubleshoot and repair damaged or underperforming fiber lines
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and splice diagrams to execute installations accurately
  • Document splice activity, test results, and network layouts
  • Ensure all work meets safety standards and quality guidelines
  • Collaborate with engineers and field teams on installations and repairs
Required Skills
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Attention to detail and precision in handling delicate fiber cables
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with splicing tools, OTDR testing, and fiber equipment
  • Ability to work independently and in field environments
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (fiber certification preferred)
  • Experience with fiber optic installation and splicing (typically 1–3+ years)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards and protocols
