Pipefitter

This role assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems, pipe supports, and related equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems. The pipefitter ensures that all piping installations meet specifications, operate safely, and support efficient facility operations.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and specifications to determine the layout of piping systems, including pipe sizes, materials, and installation procedures.
  • Measure, cut, thread, bend, assemble, and install metal, plastic, copper, and fiberglass pipes and pipe fittings according to project requirements.
  • Install and maintain pipe supports, valves, flow regulators, actuators, and control systems to ensure stable and reliable operation.
  • Test piping systems and related equipment to verify proper functioning and compliance with specifications and performance standards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair leaks, blockages, flow issues, and other problems in pipes and connected equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections on installed systems to identify potential issues and extend equipment life.
  • Follow instructions and direction from the foreman to complete tasks safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards, and safety procedures.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience in pipe fitting, including assembling, installing, and maintaining various types of piping systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical specifications for piping layouts and installations.
  • Hands-on skills in measuring, cutting, threading, bending, assembling, and installing pipes and pipe fittings.
  • Experience installing and working with copper pipe and some steel pipe.
  • Ability to install and maintain pipe supports, valves, flow regulators, actuators, and control systems.
  • Competence in testing piping systems and equipment to verify proper function and adherence to specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and repair leaks, blockages, and flow issues in piping systems.
  • Ability to follow instructions and direction from a foreman and work effectively as part of a field crew.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to site safety procedures.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with metal, plastic, copper, and fiberglass piping materials.
  • Familiarity with industrial production and processing systems, including steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and sprinkling systems.
  • Ability to perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on installed piping systems.
  • Flexibility to work overtime on extended shifts when project needs require it.

Environment

This role is field-based and follows a structured weekday schedule, typically Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., depending on the week. Certain projects, such as those in Fairfax, may operate on a six-day schedule with 12-hour shifts, offering overtime opportunities for those who choose to participate. Work is performed in an industrial and construction setting around piping systems for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and production processes.

The environment requires comfort with early start times, extended shifts on some projects, and working around tools, equipment, and piping materials in a safety-focused setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ashburn, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $37.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
