McKinney-Vento Liaison

The McKinney-Vento Liaison will manage full lifecycle of the transportation process on the student services side for students experiencing homelessness to ensure no student misses school due to lack of transportation. This position will serve as the dedicated point of contact for all transportation logistics, bridging the gap between the McKinney-Vento team, transportation department, and school-based staff.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Reviews internal notes for newly eligible students and verify addresses are correct, ensure SIS information is entered correctly by school-based staff to allow for transportation routing to be triggered, and immediately initiate referrals for alternative or activity transportation.
• Monitors the immediate enrollment list to ensure students are routed within the 3-day window prior to reaching out to the transportation department for a status update.
• Tracks updates to student information, including address changes, to maintain accurate routing and minimize disruptions in transportation services.
• Contacts the appropriate members of transportation for status updates and assist with timely routing following an initial 3 day routing timeline.
• Monitors transportation ridership inconsistencies and address concerns directly with the students and transportation.
• Collaborates with specialists and transportation staff to arrange stopgap transportation using contract transportation, ensuring students can attend school while permanent routing is finalized to reduce missed school days.
• Monitors student routing updates and collaborates with LCPS Transportation to confirm division vehicle service start dates, reducing duplicate routing and optimizing resource utilization
• Serves as the primary contact for school staff and the transportation office, providing real-time updates and resolving dismissal-hour conflicts for students experiencing homelessness.

Experience

Two (2) years of related experience

Skills and Abilities

• Possesses strong oral and written communications skills and effective interpersonal skills to work with parents as well as school and community agency personnel
• Communicates a genuine desire to assist students, parents and schools
• Demonstrates ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills
