Position: High School Welding Teacher

High School Welding Teacher (9–12)

Uwharrie Charter Academy (UCA) is a tuition-free public K–12 charter school located in Asheboro, North Carolina. Our mission is to prepare students for success through meaningful relationships, academic rigor, and real-world relevance. We provide engaging, project-based learning experiences with a STEAM-focused curriculum that encourages innovation, critical thinking, collaboration, and responsible citizenship.

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable High School Welding Teacher who is committed to preparing students for careers in the skilled trades through hands-on, industry-focused instruction. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop technical expertise, workplace professionalism, and confidence while maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment.

Position Summary

The High School Welding Teacher will provide instruction in Welding I and Welding II while creating authentic learning experiences that align with the North Carolina Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards and industry expectations. This individual will prepare students for postsecondary education, apprenticeships, and careers in the welding and manufacturing industries.

Essential Responsibilities Instruction & Student Learning
  • Teach Welding I and Welding II courses aligned with North Carolina CTE standards.
  • Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding using industry best practices.
  • Integrate project-based learning and real-world applications into daily instruction.
  • Teach workplace readiness skills including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, safety, professionalism, and employability.
  • Prepare students for American Welding Society (AWS) industry credentials and certifications.
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners while maintaining high academic and technical expectations.
  • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that promote student growth and mastery.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
Laboratory & Shop Management
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and OSHA-compliant welding laboratory.
  • Ensure students consistently follow proper welding safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, and instructional materials.
  • Build and fabricate instructional projects, fixtures, and training materials as needed.
  • Monitor inventory and communicate equipment or supply needs.
Student Support & Professional Responsibilities
  • Foster a positive classroom culture built on respect, accountability, and high expectations.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
  • Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties and extracurricular activities as needed.
  • Support the mission and values of Uwharrie Charter Academy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years of experience in welding, fabrication, manufacturing, or a related skilled trade.
  • Demonstrated experience with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding.
  • Strong knowledge of welding safety procedures and industry standards.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, families, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Ability to obtain or hold appropriate North Carolina teaching licensure or meet CTE lateral entry requirements.
  • Successful completion of required background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • American Welding Society (AWS) certifications or credentials.
  • Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with CNC machining, fabrication, or tool and die.
  • Industry experience in manufacturing, construction, or metal fabrication.
  • Experience implementing project-based learning.
