Uwharrie Charter Academy is seeking a caring, dependable, and attentive Exceptional Children (EC) Teaching Assistant to support students in our High School Functional Skills classroom
. This position is ideal for someone patient, compassionate, highly responsible, and comfortable providing hands‑on support to students with a variety of learning and personal needs.

• Provide instructional and classroom support to students in the Functional Skills program.
• Work closely with the EC teacher to implement individualized student goals and supports.
• Closely monitor students throughout the school day to ensure their safety, well‑being, and engagement
  .
• Assist students with personal care and daily living needs as appropriate, including toileting, hygiene, eating, mobility, and other personal needs.
• Support students with transitions throughout the school, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, electives, and other activities.
• Assist with behavior and classroom management strategies as directed by the EC teacher.
• Help students develop independence and functional life skills.
• Maintain student dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with teachers, administrators, students, and families.
• Assist with maintaining a structured, organized, and supportive classroom environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the EC teacher or school administration.

• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
• Experience in an EC, Functional Skills, special education, childcare, healthcare, or similar setting is a plus.
• Ability to closely monitor students and recognize safety concerns or changes in student needs.
• Comfortable assisting students with personal care and daily living needs.
• Patient, compassionate, dependable, and able to maintain a positive attitude.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to follow individualized student plans and teacher direction.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.
• Ability to work effectively with students who may have significant academic, behavioral, communication, or physical support needs.

The successful candidate will genuinely enjoy working with students and understand the importance of patience, consistency, safety, dignity, and compassion. This individual must be comfortable providing hands‑on assistance when needed and must be attentive to students' needs throughout the entire school day.
