Planning Information Specialist

Overview

Performs difficult skilled technical work assisting with enforcing zoning ordinances, reviewing plans, issuing permits, addressing citizen concerns and inquiries, assisting other planning staff, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Planning and Zoning Director.

• Associates/Technical degree with coursework in planning, or related field and one to three years of experience working in planning in the government sector, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Plat Review Officer Certification (within one year)
• Planning and Development Regulation Certification (within one year)

• Assists citizens via telephone, email, or walk-in visits; evaluates and processes the request for information.
• Manages communications with developers, surveyors, engineers and design professionals to discuss subdivision development proposals.
• Forwards requests to appropriate officials for processing.
• Advises land owners and developers regarding required regulations to complete their plan of development.
• Plat Review Officer
• Create and maintain various files, records, and reports for planning data as needed.
• Verifies permits are issued according to stated policies.
• Reviews plans from developers and property owners to ensure compliance with zoning ordinances.
• Aides with preparing zoning cases.
• Serves as a backup for the planning and permitting staff as needed.
• Assists Clerk to the Planning Board and assumes Clerk’s duties in her absence when necessary.
• Maintains necessary software updates and changes for permitting software.
• Attends Planning Board meetings.
• Abides by, enforces, and participates in the implementation and ongoing oversight of Randolph County Government safety standards and regulations.
