The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Reporting to the Warden I, this position will direct the Programs Department for the rehabilitation & reentry of male offenders in a minimum custody correctional facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Functioning as an assistant to the Warden I of the correctional center while offering a variety of Programs services to the offender population.

Directing a major program in an area or on a statewide basis. The primary programs areas are offender classification, correctional programs (adult basic education, incentive wage, recreation, religion, and volunteer programs), and supportive counseling.

Supervising subordinate personnel who are responsible for the daily implementation, development, and maintenance of the programs.

Performing other duties as needed.

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the Minimum Education and Experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required but applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

Documented experience with report writing.
Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Salary Range: $43,267 - $75,718

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

Randolph Correctional Center is a 226-bed minimum custody male facility located in Asheboro, NC, Randolph County. Randolph Community College works with the prison to provide adult education and preparation for GED test for offenders. Offenders may also be assigned to work in various capacities, such as a maintenance worker, librarian, recreation clerk, barber, canteen operator, or as clothes house or kitchen help at the prison.
