Description
An employee in this class participates in the provision of benefits for veterans and their dependents, through VA and local resources. The employee interprets and applies benefits requirements for pensions, compensations, medical services, rehabilitation training, education and home loans, death benefits, and other special provisions. Work also involves establishing and maintaining appropriate records and reports while being of assistance in filing appeals.
Technical and detailed knowledge of VA regulations, procedures, laws, and policies are required, as well as the ability to research the application of these regulations.
Work is performed under independent supervision and is evaluated through results of work, reports, and public feedback and oversight by the Veterans Services Director.
Minimum Education And ExperienceGraduation from High School, extensive experience with Social Services or other Program Administration and/or coordination, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Essential Functions- Interprets, applies, explains, and researches various regulations and benefits.
- Advises veterans and their dependents and assists them in applying to the Veterans Administration for pension, compensation, medical services, education, housing loans, death benefits, and any other benefits they qualify for.
- Prepares disability applications by assuring that necessary records, medical reports, and materials are collected and submitted.
- Release important documents with personal identifying information (PII) and personal health information (PHI) while maintaining accordance with HIPAA, state, federal, and Veterans Benefits Administration involving standard operating and privacy procedures.
- Assist veterans in their completion of VA claim forms and analyzes any claim issues by contacting state and veteran federal agencies to have these matters resolved.
- Process and certify local and state benefits such as property tax exemption, license plate, and hunting and fishing license.
- Assists with the coordination of the provision of social services to veterans and their dependents with a wide variety of social services and community agencies.
- Data entry involving Vet Pro database while also monitoring the claim’s process.
- Maintains current knowledge of constantly changing laws, regulations and procedures that affect veterans' benefits.
- Participates in various veteran organizations; performs community outreach and public awareness education.
