Market Development Manager — Thermaco Incorporated

Asheboro, NC (HQ) + travel | Reports to the President

THE ROLE

Thermaco is hiring a Market Development Manager to grow the markets our products sell into and strengthen the channels they sell through. It's a hybrid business-development and technical role: building wholesale distribution accounts, working with local plumbing and sewer regulators on product approvals, building relationships with engineering firms, and managing key accounts.

We're not screening for one background. What matters is whether you can earn trust with a skeptical code official or an established distributor, learn a technical subject fast, and follow through long enough to turn a conversation into an approval, a specification, or a sale. You might be a strong fit if you have:

  • A plumbing, grease-trap (FOG), or food service-equipment background. You already speak the language of the channel and the code process, so you'll ramp faster on the industry side. Genuinely helpful, but not required.
  • 3+ years in business development, account management, or sales. You already know how to run a pipeline, manage relationships with discipline, and stay on top of a long sales cycle. We'll teach you the plumbing, FOG, and specification side on top of that.
  • A background in teaching, coaching, ministry, military service, or healthcare. These are trust-building professions at their core. If your job has been earning credibility with skeptical people and getting them to change how they think or act, that skill transfers directly. We'll teach you the industry from scratch.

None of these is a requirement. They're just the paths we've seen work.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Grow and re-engage wholesale distribution, installer, and reseller accounts across plumbing and food service-equipment channels.
  • Build relationships with local plumbing and sewer regulators, and carry product approvals from first contact through approval and first sale.
  • Build relationships with the engineering firms that design building plumbing systems. Work toward getting Thermaco built into project specifications, not just listed as an interchangeable alternative.
  • Manage priority accounts as a reliable point of contact who follows through and coordinates internal resources.

Engineering owns product testing and certification. Executive leadership owns pricing policy. This role owns market growth.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • You earn trust with people who are skeptical by default, and you turn that trust into a decision or a next step.
  • You learn fast. You can sit across from someone who knows more than you and ask good questions instead of bluffing.
  • You have patience for slow-payoff work. Code approvals and specification wins can take months; you keep following up anyway.
  • You communicate clearly and represent the company credibly, in writing and in person.
  • You think commercially: what's blocking this, who influences the decision, what's the next commitment.
  • You are self-directed enough to manage several long-cycle relationships without daily oversight.

See "The Role" above for the backgrounds that tend to translate well. None of them are a requirement.

WHAT WE'LL TEACH YOU

Product training on Big Dipper, Trapzilla, and Little Dipper. Onboarding into plumbing codes, FOG regulations, and how local plumbing and sewer regulators approve new products. Specification-selling development. Direct mentorship from the President, who built this function from the ground up.
