Description of Work
The North Carolina Zoo is expanding, making this an exciting opportunity to join our team. We are seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to serve as a 2nd & 3rd Shift Assistant Emergency Operations – Security team member.
Assistant Emergency Operations—Security team members support Emergency Operations, which provides various public safety, security and related services and programs that contribute to a safe and secure zoo environment inclusive of guests, employees, facilities, animal collection, plant collection, and art collection.
Key Responsibilities- Politely and diplomatically enforce policies and procedures concerning both guests and employees.
- Respond appropriately and assist in potential emergency situations.
- Follow established guidelines to promote the safety of guests and staff.
- Close and/or open the park.
- Secure and/or open buildings and gates as required.
- Perform security patrols throughout the shift.
- Answer alarms and monitor building temperatures as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Management Preference:
Experience in safety or security operations, including patrolling facilities, responding to emergencies, using security equipment, and working effectively in varied weather and overnight conditions while following established procedures and instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to Central NC (heat, rain, or cold).
- Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Possess sufficient cognitive ability, auditory and visual acuity, and communication skills to perform essential duties and follow general safety practices.
- Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, reaching, standing, walking, and lifting or carrying 30 lbs.
- Must have the ability to navigate paved as well as rough or uneven pathways.
- Must be willing and able to work varied shifts, including holidays and weekends.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license or obtain one within 90 days of employment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
$16.00 per hour.
