Duties, Responsibilities & OtherThe Construction Manager 5 oversees a variety of roadway and bridge construction projects, directing inspection and material testing efforts. This role has extensive experience in construction methods, engineering concepts, and managing projects. This role is responsible for oversight of project schedule and budget as well as quality assurance of contractor's work.
- Manage various roadway and bridge construction projects.
- Oversee project schedules and budgets, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope.
- Operate within specified corporate or project budget parameters.
- Prepare and analyze schedules and cost estimates.
- Read plans and specifications, understanding the construction contractor's means and methods.
- Assist in negotiating contractor change orders.
- Supervise subordinate construction inspectors and provide assistance to project management as required.
- Evaluate staff performance and provide input to project management staff.
- Identify training requirements and arrange for staff training.
- Attract and develop new inspection staff
- Pursue new and strengthened existing relationships with local clients
- Supervise KCI staff within the Western NC Region
- NCDOT certifications and experience (preferred)
- Direct inspection and material testing efforts on various projects.
- Test, document and assure the quality of the contractor's work.
- Maintain document control for correspondence, RFIs, submittals, etc.
- Strong computer experience, including office software and drafting software.
- Experience in the operation of field and office engineering instruments.
- Ability to plan, organize, and schedule daily operations and make independent decisions.
- Solve construction problems in the field.
- Review jobsite safety daily and take immediate action to document and resolve issues.
- Understand OSHA Safety Standards and KCI corporate policies and follow them at all times.
- Understand all applicable industry standards for projects and perform all tasks per standards and client requirements.
- Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements.
- Availability for day and/or night work to support the contractor's schedule.

QualificationsThe Construction Manager 5 requires:
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience with a high school diploma/GED or minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- Ability to understand construction plans, specifications, and procedures.
- Demonstrate basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry.
- Possess the ability to read, write, and communicate fluently.
- Work effectively as a team member and complete daily reports by hand and computer.
- Ability to establish strong working relationships with various stakeholders.
Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations
Required:
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to maintain required certifications.
