Commercial Construction

Location: Triad Region, NC Job Type: Full-Time Compensation: Competitive Salary + Comprehensive Benefits Package

About the Opportunity

A well-established commercial construction firm is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its preconstruction team. This position plays a key role in developing accurate and competitive estimates for a variety of commercial and institutional construction projects, with a strong focus on public and hard-bid work.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of commercial construction, estimating processes, subcontractor management, and bid preparation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment and wants to contribute to the successful delivery of high-profile projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare complete and accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects.
  • Manage multiple bid opportunities simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Perform digital quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications.
  • Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure scope completeness.
  • Solicit, review, and analyze subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Develop detailed project estimates and bid proposals.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, owners, architects, and design teams during preconstruction.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives.
  • Maintain estimating databases, bid records, and historical cost information.
  • Participate in post-bid reviews and project turnover meetings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial construction estimating experience preferred.
  • Experience estimating public-sector and hard-bid construction projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Building Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, materials, and bidding procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Experience with digital takeoff software and estimating systems.
  • Experience with earthwork, sitework, or civil quantity takeoffs is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Sage/Timberline or comparable estimating software is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional visits to active construction sites.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel locally as needed.
