Position: Job Captain/Project Architect (3-4 Years)

Seeking Architectural Designer (3–4 Years Experience)

Vellum Architecture & Design is seeking an Architectural Designer with 3–4 years of professional experience to join our Asheville-based studio.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys modern residential design but also understands that successful projects are built through strong documentation, technical problem solving, and reliable execution.

We are looking for a designer who can contribute creatively — but who is equally comfortable working through construction documents, redlines, and the detailed realities of getting buildings built.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage BIM models through multiple project phases
  • Produce construction documents with clarity and technical rigor
  • Implement redlines accurately and efficiently
  • Assist in developing and detailing creative but buildable solutions
  • Take ownership of assigned project tasks from start to completion
  • Estimate time required to complete work and consistently meet schedule and quality expectations
  • Support coordination with consultants, contractors, and internal team members
  • Contribute to maintaining organized, accurate project documentation
Required Qualifications
  • 3–4 years of professional experience in an architectural practice
  • Strong experience working on modern residential projects
  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch)
Core Skills
  • Strong BIM proficiency (Revit preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to produce and contribute to construction document sets
  • Comfortable working through technical detailing and problem-solving
  • Ability to execute redlines thoroughly and efficiently
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Able to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
  • Capable of working independently when needed
Additional Strengths (Preferred)
  • Some commercial project experience
  • Working knowledge of construction methods and assemblies
  • Prior construction experience or field exposure is a plus
  • Interest in how buildings are actually put together
Studio Fit

The ideal candidate:

  • Takes ownership of their work
  • Understands the importance of documentation quality
  • Thrives in a collaborative studio environment
  • Balances design thinking with technical execution
  • Is proactive, reliable, and accountable
